Compartment syndrome

Compartment syndrome occurs when excessive pressure builds up inside an enclosed muscle space in the body. It may occur acutely, often following trauma, or as a chronic syndrome, seen most often in athletes. Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is a surgical emergency.
